Every dog has different needs, which is why I take a personalized approach to rehabilitation and massage. I bring professional care directly to your home, creating a comfortable environment where your dog can focus on feeling and moving their best.

Canine Rehabilitation

Individualized rehabilitation programs designed to help dogs recover from injury or surgery, improve strength and mobility, and regain function. Each program is tailored to your dog’s condition, abilities, and goals.

Canine Massage Therapy

Therapeutic massage can help support circulation, flexibility, relaxation, mobility, and overall comfort. Massage may be incorporated into a rehabilitation program or provided as a stand-alone service.

Laser Therapy

Therapeutic laser treatments can be incorporated into your dog’s individualized rehabilitation or massage program as a non-invasive modality to support comfort and the body’s natural healing processes.

Strength, Conditioning & Mobility

Customized therapeutic exercises help improve strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, and functional movement. Exercises are selected based on your dog’s individual abilities and may be continued at home between visits.

In-Home Care

Your dog doesn’t have to leave home to receive personalized rehabilitation and massage. I bring my equipment, experience, and expertise directly to you, allowing your dog to receive care in a familiar and comfortable environment.

Senior & Maintenance Care

Rehabilitation isn’t only for dogs recovering from surgery or injury. Ongoing maintenance programs can help senior dogs and dogs with chronic mobility challenges maintain strength, mobility, and function so they can continue enjoying the activities they love.

Meet Your Canine Rehabilitation Specialist

My love for animals started long before I ever imagined it would become my career.

At just 13 years old, I began volunteering at The Texas Zoo in my hometown of Victoria, Texas. That first experience sparked a lifelong passion for animals and set me on a path that would eventually lead me to canine rehabilitation.

After moving to Austin, I began my veterinary career as a kennel technician at a local veterinary hospital. I worked my way up to veterinary technician and eventually became a surgery technician, gaining years of hands-on experience caring for animals and developing a deeper understanding of veterinary medicine, injury, recovery, and patient care.

But in 2007, I found what truly felt like my calling: animal rehabilitation.

I became a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP) through Northeast Seminars, a program that was previously affiliated with the University of Tennessee. In 2017, I earned my Small Animal Massage Practitioner (SAMP) credential through Northwest School of Animal Massage.

Over the years, I’ve also spent 20 years as a department head and now business owner, experiences that have shaped not only my professional skills but also the way I approach patient care. I believe good rehabilitation requires more than knowing the exercises or having the right equipment. It requires listening, paying attention to the individual animal, and understanding what matters to both the dog and their family.

That belief is at the heart of On The Run Rehab.

I created my mobile practice so I could bring personalized canine rehabilitation directly to my patients rather than asking them to make another trip to a clinic. Working with dogs in their own environment allows me to see them where they are most comfortable and to develop practical rehabilitation strategies that fit into their everyday lives.

Whether your dog is recovering from surgery or an injury, dealing with mobility challenges, working to regain strength and function, or simply needs help staying active and comfortable as they age, I approach every patient as an individual.

After more than three decades of working with animals, my passion remains the same as it was when I was 13 years old:

Helping animals live healthier, happier, more comfortable lives.

And there is nothing more rewarding to me than watching a dog regain confidence, rediscover movement, and get back to doing the things they love.

Tails of Joy

I’ve been fortunate to know Tyler Johnson for nearly nine years.  During that time, he very successfully rehabilitated two of my dogs for torn ACL tendons, and a torn shoulder tendon.  He’s also done great work to maintain range of motion on my dog with an arthritic elbow and is currently working with her on rehab following an elbow break.  I’d recommend Tyler most highly to anyone needing canine rehabilitation.  Here’s why:

He is an expert.  Few practitioners in the Austin area have the depth or length of experience that Tyler has.

He tailors his programs to the dog’s immediate needs.  He has a wide range of exercises and will extend or curtail them depending on the dog’s progress or level of comfort.

He works closely with the veterinarian.  My dog’s orthopedic veterinarian regularly receives rehabilitation summaries from Tyler, and they work as a team to develop the right program, at the right time for my dog.

He knows how to establish rapport with the animals he treats.  My dog literally squeals with excitement when she sees him, and she will walk on the balance equipment by herself, waiting for him to begin.

HE CARES.

Our dog Oliver was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that caused him to lose significant body weight, and his treatment also caused secondary infections that made him immobile. We started physical therapy with Tyler as soon as we could, and Oliver has not only regained hias mobility and body weight, he is actually now stronger than he was before he got sick. When people that saw him when he was sick see him now they call him "a miracle dog", and a huge part of this is because of the work Tyler did with him to rehabilitate. Tyler is extremely gifted with his work, and also genuinely cares about the animals. Both of our dogs are now seniors, so going forward we've decided to keep them doing regular physical therapy to keep them strong and hopefully help prevent future issues. We are so thankful for Tyler's care and could not more highly recommend his work.

We have had the pleasure of working with Ty Johnson with generations of dogs and every single time, he has been a vital part of keeping our dogs as healthy as possible.

Whether it was a torn acl of our 110 pound Rhodesian Ridgeback who needed water therapy as well as laser and tailored exercises or our sweet little Ibizan Hound girl who was born with compromised knees (undergoing two knee surgeries) and deformed feet and had to start rehab as a puppy, Ty broughtand brings his expertise and passion for his work to every patient he works with – thoroughly researching each patient’s physical needs and implementing a plan specifically for that animal and educating the owners as well on home care.

We always knew that when our dog was in his care, that they were in the best hands and we could rest assured they were getting everything they needed to thrive in their day-to-day life.

We saw noticeable changes in our dogs from Ty’s work, more energy, better range of motion, better strength, and most importantly (for us) Ty treated our dog(s) as if they were his own and has an invested loving relationship with every animal he treats.

Ty is a true gift to the community and we cannot express how thankful we are to know him!
